Happy New Year… I hope!
2024 was a year full of changes, new beginnings, and, sadly, goodbyes.
For the first time in over 45 years, I found myself at home every single day. No job to go to, but not quite retired either. I felt like I was caught in this strange in-between space, unsure if I was happy or just really, really lost. Honestly, it was a tough adjustment.
And then there was the technology. Oh boy. I wouldn’t say I’m completely clueless, but trying to figure out how to build a website and navigate social media? Let’s just say there were moments I felt like the biggest idiot alive. Thankfully, I’m a quick learner, and with my amazing sister’s help, The Barking Blogger finally came to life.
This blog has been a dream of mine for nearly three years, but it never really got off the ground—until 2024. I’m so grateful I had the time to tinker, create, and (let’s be real) redo things a million times over. Writing is where I thrive. I love connecting with people, sharing my world and, of course, my dogs. The tech side, though? That almost stopped me in my tracks.
But even with these accomplishments (big or small, depending on who you ask), 2024 brought heartbreak. My sweet Maggie Mae passed away. Her sweet picture adorns this post as a testament to her strength and resilience.
Maggie was my first adopted special needs dog, and she was truly one of a kind. She inspired so many people with her kind spirit. Her life wasn’t always easy, but Maggie didn’t know the meaning of sadness. She loved me and her pack with everything she had. If you’ve never heard her story, I’d love for you to take a moment to read about Maggie’s incredible journey. It would mean so much to me to keep her spirit alive.
Why am I sharing all of this? Because I need to say thank you.
When I started this journey just three months ago, I had 200 followers. Today, over 2,500 of you have joined this little community of dog lovers. I can’t believe how many of you have shared my stories, and even more, your own. Each one means so much to me.
If you’ve made it this far, I’d love for you to share a photo and a little story about your furry friend. Let me get to know them—and you. And please, keep sharing my stories and yours. Together, we’re building something so full of love, connection, and joy.
