Let’s talk

DOGS.

Grab a cup of your favorite drink, and let’s talk about my favorite subject—I suspect it’s yours, too! Let’s talk DOGS!

From the bottom of my heart (and my pack’s paws!), thank you so much for stopping by my little corner of the dog-loving world! Whether you’re here for the stories, the tips, or just to celebrate the amazing bond between humans and their four-legged friends, I’m so glad you’ve joined us.

Your support means the world to me and my pack of rescue pups. I hope you leave with a smile on your face, a few new ideas, and maybe even a bit of inspiration to adopt, volunteer, or simply give your own dog some extra belly rubs.

Please don’t be a stranger—come back soon! The tails are always wagging, and there’s always more to share in this wonderful world of wet noses and wagging tails.

A Place To Call
Home

The heartbreaking reality is that thousands of dogs need homes every day, but something about this time of year makes it especially tough for rescues. The fluffy, cuddly pups tend to find homes quickly—puppies are always in demand. But what about the ones who’ve had a rougher road?

You know the ones I mean. The dog who looks a little disheveled, like life hasn’t been kind. The one too scared to meet your gaze, crouched in the corner, trembling with fear. Or the one with medical needs, waiting for someone special to help them heal. Maybe it’s the dog who seems distant, not because they don’t care, but because they’ve stopped believing anyone ever will.

This post is for them—the ones who need someone to see past the scars and into their beautiful hearts. Could you be that person? Or maybe you know someone who could offer them the loving home they’ve been dreaming of?

All of these incredible dogs are currently waiting at my favorite shelter, Saint Francis Community Animal Rescue & Education in Murphysboro, Illinois. Clicking on a dog’s picture will take you directly to the shelter’s page, where you’ll find all the information you need to make their dreams come true.

I promise, if you give one of these special souls a chance, you won’t be disappointed. The gratitude and loyalty they’ll show you will be unlike anything you’ve ever experienced. Let’s find these overlooked gems the love they deserve.

Meet The

PACK

20201126 221116

Emmy Sue

The smallest of the bunch but with the biggest heart, Emmy was a sad little sight when I rescued her. Almost hairless from a flea infestation, she weighed only 5 pounds, and her story was one that could break anyone’s heart. The shelter worker simply said, “This is the Ritz Carlton compared to her old life.” From that moment, I promised Emmy a lifetime of love, cuddles, and never-ending belly rubs. Now, she’s my shadow, always close, reminding me of the power of second chances.

Charlie Chuck

Ah, Charlie. AKA “The Dictator.” He might be small, but he’s got a big attitude, and let’s just say he’s earned some “unmentionable” nicknames in my house. Part Chihuahua, part commander of the universe, Charlie came to me from a rescue 60 miles away with a leg injury that healed all wrong. But no worries! With some TLC and determination, he’s running laps around the other dogs now—and I think they secretly wish he’d slow down. He’s fast, feisty, and the undeniable boss of the pack.

Lucy Lu

Little Lucy is my miracle baby. Weighing in at a fragile 1.2 pounds when I found her, she was abandoned in an enclosed trailer and had to be hospitalized for a week. She even came to work with me for around-the-clock care—so yes, she’s the only one with a professional résumé. Now, Lucy weighs 15 pounds and lives a life of luxury, far removed from her tough beginnings. Spoiled? Definitely.

Axle Scott

Axle came into our lives as a Christmas gift for my husband after losing his beloved furry friend, Nitro. From a sick little puppy with a long bout of UTIs and bladder issues to the healthy, bouncy 23-pound firecracker he is today, Axle is proof that love (and patience) conquers all. And my husband? Let’s just say Axle’s taken up permanent residence in his heart.

Sydney Grace

Sydney is my calm, cool, and collected girl. Part chocolate lab, part Belgian Malinois, she’s a laid-back queen who enjoys her couch more than chaos. While the rest of the pack gets excited over, well, everything, Sydney’s the one chilling, offering an occasional tail wag as her stamp of approval. She’s the Zen master of our bunch.

Pepper Pot

Pepper was a lost soul who found us—literally. She wandered up while we were building our house, scared and injured, refusing to let anyone near her. Slowly but surely, a warm bed and tasty meals on the porch convinced her to trust us. When we tracked down her original owners, they didn’t want her back. She’d been a breeding dog and, in their eyes, was past her prime. But to us? She’s a treasure. Now, Pepper is safe, loved, and forever ours.

Red Dog

Red’s story is nothing short of miraculous. We found him in the Shawnee National Forest at 5 months old, weighing only 8 pounds. My vet wasn’t sure he’d make it, but with bite-sized meals and a lot of care, Red pulled through. Today, he’s a strong 60 pounds and no longer scared of the dark. He’s living proof that love and kibble can transform a life.

Josie Girl

Josie is a force of nature—part Belgian Malinois, part Dutch Shepherd, and 100% amazing. I was nervous at first, knowing the breed’s intensity, but she quickly became the most remarkable dog I’ve ever known. Intelligent, athletic, and always ready to impress, Josie is the queen of tricks, agility, and, of course, cuddles. I’m so glad I didn’t let my initial hesitation get in the way of bringing her home.
